Four Lane Ends Congregational Church

History & description

A small hillside chapel at the junction of Bradshaw Road and Harwood Road, between Tottington and Affetside, with only a handful of cottages for company.

History

A chapel is recorded on the site as early as 1792, and the graveyard beside it was in use between 1797 and 1814. The church itself dates its foundation to 1832, and the present building was erected in 1885. It retains the Congregational name.

War memorial

The chapel's war memorial carries 17 names from the First World War and 6 from the Second — a heavy toll for so small a community.
