History & description
All Souls in Bolton is a former church designed by Paley and Austin in 1880-1881. Its brick exterior and large west tower rise above the surrounding terraces. Mill owner Thomas Greenhalgh supported the church in its early years.
A new use for a Victorian building
The church reopened in 2014 following a major restoration and conversion. Two modern structures inside the historic shell provide rooms for work, meetings and community activities. The arrangement allows the tall, open church interior to remain visible around the inserted rooms.
Visiting and access
The Churches Conservation Trust describes an exhibition about Bolton's people, together with training and performance spaces. Its visitor information lists a street-level entrance, accessible toilets and a lift serving the upper floors of the internal structures.
